Permissions

There are different types of calendars in Jira, and the permission settings for each type may vary. Here is an overview of the different types of calendars and the steps you need to take to set the permissions for each:

  • Basic Calendar: This type of calendar does not use issues from Jira, so you will need to ensure that the user has access to the application itself. You can do this by going to System -> Global Permissions -> Calendar Users. The user you want to grant access to must be in this group. Most likely, all your users are in this group by default. To give the user access to the calendar, assign them one of the two calendar roles: Admin or User. An Admin can change the calendar and add new events, while a User can only view the calendar.

  • Project Calendars (Project, JQL, or Filters): For this type of calendar, you will need to make sure that the user has access to the application itself by going to System -> Global Permissions -> Calendar Users. The user you want to grant access to must be in this group. Most likely, all your users are in this group by default. Additionally, you will need to check the Filter and Issues permissions for the calendar. For a Filter Calendar, make sure that the user has access to your filter and has access to issues in this filter. For a Project calendar, make sure the user has access to the project the calendar is built on. For a JQL calendar, make sure the user has access to the project/projects the calendar is built on. Finally, assign the user one of the two calendar roles: Admin or User. An Admin can change the calendar, while a User can only view the calendar.
